Yet another test of teamwork – demolition of the south stand at Eden Park began on 4 August. Preparation for the World Cup 2011 has officially started.

Not since the first Rugby World Cup final was hosted in Australia and New Zealand in 1987 has the pressure been so intense. The eyes of the world are on Eden Park and the Ward team are ready.

The south stand, which is being expanded to house a total of 21,500 spectators, has been described as the cornerstone of the park’s upgrade. Its demolition is time-critical to construction being completed on time – 12 months before the tournament begins. Ward Group take pressing deadlines in their stride and are delighted to be associated with such an important national event.

The upgrade, which is expected to cost around $240 million, will be world class – hopefully the performance from our team in black will match.

It’s been an eventful first season for Wardy or “Kaos” as he has been re-named by Australian V8 Ute Racing organisers. It will be difficult for Peter to convince judges “I didn’t do it” with a nickname like that!

A quick review of events and the 2008 results table reveals mixed results; two races not started and three not finished. There were of course a few casualties on the way, blowing two motors and changing paint and damaged panels. A few ‘altercations’ (his words) added to the entertainment.

However, after warming up his best results were at the final meeting in Pukekohe – finishing in fifth place. This taste of success has given Peter the Ute ‘bug’ real bad… he’ll be back next season to entertain us all.
